Supporting your teen’s education is part of the program at Never Alone. While treatment focuses on emotional and behavioral growth, the school component ensures teens stay on track academically, make progress where they may have struggled, and build skills that help them succeed beyond treatment.

Academic Schedule & Daily Structure

Students spend three hours each weekday focused on schoolwork, with structured classes to balance learning and therapy.
Assignments come from each student’s home school or an online grade-level equivalent. School may include core subjects, a full course load, or GED preparation. Staff are available to explain concepts, help students manage assignments, and keep them engaged.
This schedule helps teens keep up with school without feeling stressed, so parents never have to choose between school and treatment.

Personalized Support & Instruction

Classrooms are led by Karissa Thompson, CASAC-T through the New York State Office of Addiction Services and Supports (OASAS) and dual-certified in Social Studies and Special Education (Generalist), who also offers Family Therapy. She works closely with each student to make schoolwork easier to understand, keep teens motivated, and give them the tools they need to stay on track for graduation. With a maximum of 22 students in the program, Karissa and the support team provide individualized attention and ensure each teen’s learning needs are addressed.
An individualized approach ensures each student keeps up with high school work and makes progress toward graduation. Your child is much more likely to keep up with school when their substance use and underlying mental health issues like depression or anxiety are in check.

Technology & Resources At Our Teen Rehab

Students have access to the tools they need to stay on top of schoolwork while in treatment. Staff help manage assignments from home schools (digital or paper) so nothing is missed, and students keep up with their classes.

Every student has a laptop to complete assignments, follow their school’s curriculum, and stay connected with teachers.
Assignments from home schools are fully supported and guided by staff.
Paper copies or additional materials are provided when needed to make lessons easier to follow.

GED preparation is available for older students seeking an alternative path to graduation.

Teens have everything they need to thrive with schoolwork.

Collaboration with Schools & Families

From the first day, families and home school districts are actively involved in each student’s academic plan. Staff work directly with schools to gather assignments, IEPs, or 504 plans and integrate them into the student’s work.

Families receive weekly updates by phone or email, so they always know how their teen is doing and can ask questions whenever needed.

This close collaboration helps teens stay on track with school while in treatment. Families can finally relax knowing their child’s academic needs are being actively monitored and supported alongside therapy.

Parent & Guardian Involvement

Families play an essential role in supporting their teen’s education. Parents and guardians receive weekly updates by phone or email, keeping them informed about schoolwork, progress, and challenges. Staff are available to answer questions, explain assignments, and help families understand how to best support their teen’s learning.

Because Karissa serves as both Family Therapist and academic lead, parents have a single point of contact who understands their teen’s progress academically and emotionally.

When needed, parents are included in planning discussions or school meetings, making sure assignments, credits, and accommodations are clear. Regular communication allows parents to see that their teen is getting individualized help to stay on track academically, even if they had fallen behind before entering treatment.

By staying informed and involved, parents can see that their teen is receiving the attention and encouragement they need to succeed in school while navigating treatment.

Academic Outcomes & Success

Most teens not only stay on track with their schoolwork while in treatment but also make meaningful progress in areas where they had previously struggled. One-on-one support and guidance help students understand difficult concepts, catch up on missed material, and feel more confident in their abilities. Some students even pass GED exams while in care, and others return home and successfully enroll in college or other programs with staff support.

Families often notice an increase in motivation and confidence as teens tackle schoolwork with individualized attention. By combining focused teaching with ongoing guidance, the program ensures students make real academic progress, stay prepared for next steps, and gain skills that help them succeed in school beyond treatment.

Preparing for College, Career & Life Beyond

As students near the end of treatment, the focus shifts toward preparing for life after their time at Never Alone. Staff help teens plan next steps based on their goals, whether that’s returning to their home school, enrolling in college, exploring vocational options, or entering the workforce.

A Supportive, Engaging Environment

School at Never Alone is designed to feel approachable and engaging while keeping teens on track. Staff create a welcoming atmosphere where students feel comfortable asking questions, exploring challenging material, and getting the help they need. With a maximum of 22 students in the program, staff can provide focused support and make sure each teen receives the attention necessary to succeed academically while navigating treatment.
This supportive approach helps teens gain confidence in their academics while managing treatment. Parents can feel reassured that their child is not only keeping up with schoolwork but also receiving the individualized attention and encouragement needed to succeed.
